Professional Writing is designed to help students learn the basic skills they need to write effective documents in the workplace. In this course, students will learn how to analyze Business Writing genres such as business letters, types of business writing include informational, transactional, and persuasive business writing that is produced with clear language.

Professional Speaking course  is  a part of  Speaking Course series  offered by English Department of Universitas Pattimura.  The course adopts project-based learning approach in which  students are acquainted to some projects such as,  Campus Talkshow ( Interview),  TED Talk and  Photovoice to improve their professional speaking skills.  By the end of the course, students are expected to demonstrate their speaking ability through all the assigned projects, develop their speaking strategies on a different learning situation and collaborative as well as self-directed learning skills.

 Second Language Acquisition unit is a three credit points subject that deal mainly with  how second or foreign language is acquired and learned.  This core unit is an integral part of Material Development and TEFL course. It sets a basic theory under which learning  materials and teaching design are developed. This unit course  focus on the area of  Krashen's Theory of Second Language Acquisition,  stages of SLA,  individual variation, attitude and aptitude, constructive analysis, error Analysis and Inter-language.

After working through this unit students are expected to make an explicit connection between theory of SLA and classroom practice . They are able to consider some effective ways to develop material and learning activities for EFL class, and develop strategies for extending their knowledge of EFL teaching and learning

Seminar on Language teaching course is the part of research methodology subjects which is aimed at providing students to be critical thinkers and writers. This course gives chance for students to develop their theoretical and practical knowledge on research methodology through their writing proposal. This course also treated students to present their rational ideas of research proposal into classroom seminar presentation. By following this course, the students are expected to be ready with their own research proposal and continue to present their ideas and proposal in seminar proposal examination.

Introduction to Research on Language Teaching is one of the content knowledge subjects that should be learnt by the fifth grade students after they have passed several prerequisite subjects. This course providing students to have sufficient theoretical and practical knowledge of Quantitative Research. This course gives opportunities for students to master certain aspects of research methodology which covers the nature of quantitative research, research problems, assumptions and hypothesis, review of literature, research designs, sampling designs, measurement and data collection, and data analysis. By the End of this course, the students are expected to have theoretical and practical knowledge on quantitative research and are able to design a mini research quantitative research as collaborative.

With the advance of computer technology and the growth of interest in the use of computers for education, it is necessary for language teachers to become aware of the application of computers in language learning and teaching. In other words, language teachers need to know about the basics of Computer – Assisted Language Learning (CALL) in order not to be left behind in the use of instructional technology for enhancing learning and teaching. This course provides students with an introduction to theory and practice of CALL. Course topics include theoretical bases for CALL; the development and use of CALL applications such as multimedia/hypermedia materials and internet tools; and strategies for integrating CALL into second language programs. In order to pass the course, students need to attain the minimum academic grade of C.

Students are able to analyze the components of curriculum and teaching methodology as well as are able to teach English by using the appropriate teaching method and suit with the characteristics of the students.

Students are expected to be able to familiarize themselves with different types of listening and listening strategies in order to participate in any forms of professional oral communication.

Students will get improved listening comprehension by encountering and experiencing real-life like English spoken by people in professional world. Thus, the students are expected to have sufficient listening-related skills and strategies to be involved in real communication conducted in target English language.

Intensive Listening is a compulsory subject with 2 credit points. It is the introduction of the Listening courses. Intensive Listening is mainly dealt with different types of text contained general topics which are found in the form of short dialogues and long conversation. The course provides students with practical listening strategies such as listening for main ideas, listening for specific information, listening for stressed words and using context clues which can help them develop their listening skill in order to participate in simple oral communication. In order to pass the course, students need to attain the minimum academic grade of C

This course provides the students with practical skills in pronouncing English words, phrases, and sentences in dialogues and passages. The practical component focuses on students’ practice of pronouncing letters and sounds; Syllables, words and sentences in dialogues and passages with the lecturer giving the model pronunciation and providing supervision and feedback. The production of sound is emphasized when pronouncing words, stress patterns when pronouncing phrases and intonation when pronouncing sentences. Students have lots of practices in transcribing words, phrases and sentences in dialogues and passages. In this course, they will work on a variety of learning activities and tasks (i.e., games, group work, pair work, etc.) both individually and collaboratively.
